La Trobe

world milestones

The year of the first Moon Landing
I watched,in awe, from the Glenn College lounge, LaTrobe University. The lounge was quiet ...just a few mature age students, me and a nun.

This was my first year at Uni. I lived in college.
A newly built university, LaTrobe offered its students space, a comparatively young academic staff and new disciplines.Social Sciences ,rigorous political debate and Student Activism flowered. Set in bushland on the edge of the city, the isolation generated a hot house unhampered by precedent or history.

The stuff of pioneering spirit... I also partied and wrestled with the meaning of life!

Newsday Picturescope featured a double page spread on Friday, November 28, 1969, after the second moon walk.
The caption read:
Perilous moment for Alan Bean as he reaches the Surveyor 3, after he and Charles Conrad climbed down a crater, the first negotiated by man.
Their module, the Intrepid, is 600 ft.away in the background.
