Kerosene Refrigerator Manual

heritage

In the late fifties we also had a kerosene fridge and a briquette hot water service on the back verandah, a copper to light for laundry boiling and a wringer to squash out excess water before 'hanging out to dry'.

Laurel brand kerosene boasted several advantages: "easiest light on the eyes", "convenient heating and cooking", "invaluable for cleaning windows", "adding to washing day", "cleanses coppers, porcelain", "cleanses mangles and prevents rotting", "splendid scalp massage, removes dandruff..", "a few drops on sugar cures colds", "keeping ants off pantry shelves", "placed on swamp surfaces, prevents insects maturing".
